New Filing Reveals Size and Timeline of Memorial Hermann Katy’s New Patient Tower
Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital’s previously announced $282.5 million expansion is coming into sharper focus after a newly registered state filing revealed additional details about the size, cost and planned construction timeline of the project’s new patient tower.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation registered the Memorial Hermann Hospital Katy - North Tower Expansion project on September 3, 2026.
According to the filing, the project calls for construction of a new 282,000-square-foot patient bed tower attached to the existing Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital at 23900 Katy Fwy, Katy, TX 77494.
The filing lists an estimated construction cost of $180 million for this portion of the project and a planned construction period from January 4, 2027 through January 28, 2030.
What the new Memorial Hermann Katy filing tells us
The September filing provides several specific details that were not included when Memorial Hermann initially announced its broader Katy expansion in October 2025.
According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation project filing, the North Tower project includes:
- 282,000 square feet of new construction
- A new patient bed tower attached to the existing Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital
- Related utilities and site work
- An estimated construction cost of $180 million
- A planned construction start date of January 4, 2027
- A planned completion date of January 28, 2030
- Shepley Bulfinch as the design firm
The project is currently listed by TDLR as Project Registered.
It is important to distinguish these filed plans from completed construction milestones. Construction schedules, costs and project details can change as a development moves forward.
Memorial Hermann previously announced a $282.5 million Katy expansion
Memorial Hermann Health System announced a $282.5 million expansion of its Katy hospital campus on October 23, 2025.
The centerpiece of that broader project is a planned eight-story patient tower that Memorial Hermann said would include additional inpatient beds, advanced imaging services and a rooftop helipad for Memorial Hermann Life Flight®.
Memorial Hermann also announced plans to expand several other areas of the Katy campus, including:
- Pediatric emergency services
- Surgical services
- Women’s and children’s services
- Laboratory services
- Pharmacy services
- Kitchen and cafeteria facilities
- Other hospital support services
When Memorial Hermann first announced the expansion, the health system said construction was scheduled to begin in late 2026.
The newly registered state filing now provides a more detailed look at the planned construction schedule and physical size of the North Tower portion of the project.
The $180 million filing is not a replacement for the $282.5 million expansion figure
There is an important distinction between the two dollar amounts associated with the Memorial Hermann Katy expansion.
The $282.5 million figure represents Memorial Hermann’s announced investment in the broader hospital expansion.
The newer $180 million figure is the estimated construction cost listed in the TDLR filing specifically for the North Tower project.
Those figures should not be treated as conflicting estimates or as evidence that the overall expansion budget has changed.
Similarly, the January 2027 through January 2030 dates are the construction dates currently listed in the state filing. They should be viewed as the project’s planned schedule rather than guaranteed construction or completion dates.
Healthcare infrastructure continues to grow with the Katy area
The Memorial Hermann expansion is another example of major infrastructure investment occurring alongside the continued growth of Katy and the surrounding communities.
As residential development has expanded throughout Greater Katy, demand has also increased for healthcare, schools, roads, retail, employment centers and other services that support a growing population.
Memorial Hermann specifically cited the growth of the Greater Katy community and increasing demand for healthcare when announcing the hospital expansion.
For current Katy residents, homebuyers and families considering relocating to the area, projects like this provide another indication of how the region’s infrastructure continues to evolve alongside residential growth.
What happens next at Memorial Hermann Katy?
The September 3 filing is an important project milestone, but the North Tower remains a planned construction project.
The filing currently identifies January 4, 2027 as the anticipated construction start date and January 28, 2030 as the anticipated completion date.
Additional permitting, construction, hospital announcements and project updates could provide more information as the expansion moves forward.
Nest Ahead will continue monitoring the Memorial Hermann Katy expansion and other significant development activity throughout Katy, TX and the surrounding Greater Katy area.
